The land walls, for the most part, date from the reign of Emperor Theodosius II (408-450). The initial phase of construction, which produced one long high wall punctuated at regular intervals by some hundred bastions of defense towers, was completed in 413 under the supervision of Anthemius Perfect of the Eastern Empire. Chora Museum: The mosaics and frescoes in St. Savior are by far the most important works of Byzantine pictorial art known today, in terms of both their beauty and their number. It is fascinating to realize that they are coeval with the frescoes of Giotto in Italy. And while different in certain particulars, they nonetheless appear to radiate the same sense of living, breathing reality so characteristic of the Early Renaissance. Sehzade Mosque: It is at Sarachane across the Minicipality Palace. Kanuni, ordered Mimar Sinan to construct a mosque in memory of his 1543 died son, Mehmet, and construction strated on 1544, had completed on 1548. Mosque, which is at the city center, is in the middle of a complex composed of theology schools, mausoleums, tabhane and imaret. Suleymaniye Mosque: The mosque of Süleyman the Magnificent was built between 1550 and 1557 by the fomous architect Sinan whouse wish was to surpass the buiders of St. Sophia which is conspicuous from its great size, emphasized by the four minarets rising one from each corner of the courtyard.
